Why did you make this work:
It's an article for teachers and the assignment was to make illustrations about punishing and rewarding children at school these days. The illustration on the cover had to be about rewarding. Inside about punishing.

Printed in a magazine and published online

How did you make this work:
The editor asked me to make illustrations who were clear in one look. Not to much details. They gave specific guidelines, not to go over the top with the punishment topic. My own illustration work is often paint by hand is more experimental but if it is editorial they want to take it down a notch. Take a look on my Instagram.

Biography:
Nina Vandeweghe lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. She graduated in 2012 from The School Of Arts, KASK, Ghent, and she has made illustrations for the Belgian newspaper ‘De Morgen’, and various other Belgian and international magazines. Nina has a rudimentary style with influences of l’Art Brut. Alongside commissioned work she also paints and creates her own work. Within this work she uses fragments of text, slivers of paper, scribbles etc. She uses these elements to build up her world with melancholic anti-hero characters. Her work contains dark humour and she often plays with coincidence. An accidental stain of paint or a found piece of paper can often be the starting point for a work.
