FANGFANG HAN
The Tube

Animation

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
Motivated by the bustling daily life in the London Tube and my desire for a deeper connection to its history, the Tube project came to life. After a museum visit, a Tube moment revealed overlooked sounds—the tracks, doors, and echoing wind. Wanting to celebrate its 160th anniversary, I created an animation exploring how these sounds tell stories and bring joy, making the subway a more human place.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
I employ a combination of paper cutout stop-motion animation and frame-by-frame digital drawing using Procreate. The final touch is added through editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. Also, I captured the sound directly from the tube using my smartphone.

How were your illustrations used:
It's an ad campaign designed for London Tube screens or social media pages. After its production, the TFL social media team discovered it. Fortunately, it got featured on their Instagram account on July 17, 2023.
