Waitrose Christmas Winter Village Chocolate Box

A pop-up packaging project

Why did you make this work:
The brief was to create artwork for a pop-up chocolate box for Waitrose's Christmas 2023 range. They already had the basic concept with three layers that fold out. They wanted a festive, snowy scene with lots of fun detail and cut-out elements with one side showing a daytime scene full of joyful, festive activities and the reverse the nighttime version with glowing windows and nocturnal animals.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
I drew the artwork in Procreate on an iPad and used Adobe photoshop to add texture. I also used Adobe Illustrator to create the outlines for the laser cut detail, taking care that the three layers work together when viewed from either side.

How were your illustrations used:
They were on Waitrose's Christmas Winter Village Chocolate box as well as other products in the Christmas range, including plant gift boxes. I also adapted the illustration for a musical rotating biscuit tin.
The chocolate box folds out to reveal a pop up village scene with cut out details. Two drawers on each side have 12 sections each with a chocolate in and a small illustration underneath.
