For the tourists to dive and explore the wrecks, Fitzgerald had to design the map to look reminiscent of an old cartographers map. This would include elements like sea monsters, a compass, mountains, rivers and some towns. Fitzgerald illustrated the ships in a way that informed the tourists how the ship was sunk or come aground.
