Why did you make this work:
This picture book, IN OUR GARDEN, is a collaboration with G.P. Putnam's Sons, a division of Penguin Random House in New York City. Millie, a new resident in her big city, wants to make a new green space in her non-green city. With the help of her classmates, they build a garden for the community to share.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
I used a mixed media approach: ink, pencil, collage, gouache, and Photoshop.

How were your illustrations used:
These illustrations were used in the published picture, IN OUR GARDEN, by G.P. Putnam's Sons, a division of Penguin Random House.

Biography:
Melissa Crowton is an illustrator originally from Utah. She has worked a variety of projects, including books for toddlers and young children, illustration and art direction work with the Google Doodle team, and editorial illustrations for magazines and newspapers. Some of her clients include Google, Chronicle Books, The New York Times, Nosy Crow, Penguin Random House, and Tundra.
