Joe Wilson is an award winning illustrator based in England specialising in highly detailed, hand-drawn illustrations and print. Working with a combination of pencil, ink and digital colour, Joe’s work takes form as a hybrid of the traditional and contemporary.
Joe’s work for The Washington Post’s Summer Movie Posters earned two awards in 2017 from The Society for News Design US – one in the Illustration category and one in the Features Design category
Using skills learned in the print room of Leeds Metropolitan University, Joe’s has developed into a style reminiscent of woodcut printing, etching and screen printing.
Known for his focus on detail and drawing, alongside a preference for muted colour palettes, Joe’s unique style and considered draftsmanship attract a wide variety of international clients, with work ranging from full media advertising campaigns to limited run screen prints.
In recent years Joe’s work has been commissioned by global clients such as, Johnnie Walker, Adidas, Royal Ascot UK, Ted Baker, Tommy Hilfiger, Virgin Mobile, Coors, Carlsberg, Four Peaks Beer, Film4, The Savoy Hotel, Absolut Vodka, Bombay Sapphire, Citibank, Kiehl’s, Mr Porter, Boeing, SNCF (France), Crabtree & Evelyn, BMW, EMI, Vanity Fair, GQ, The Washington Post, Random House Publishing, Hachette Publishing, Nature Magazine, Planet Rock Magazine, Variety, Popular Mechanics Magazine
His work adorns products all over the world in various forms including, beer cans, spirit bottles, murals, clothing, and luxury skin cream. Best known for his ongoing work with 21st Amendment Brewery and his consistently popular cover artwork for David Mitchell’s Award Winning novel, ‘The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet’ Joe Wilson also collaboratively created the first cocktail menu to be sent into space!
