World Illustration Awards: Walker Books sponsors the Children’s Books Category for 2018!
As the call for entries to the 2018 World Illustration Award opens, we are pleased to announced that Walker Books are once again supporting the Children’s Books Category, following a successful year of collaboration with the Association of Illustrators in 2017.
Deirdre McDermott, Picture Books Publisher and Creative Director at Walker, says of the World Illustration Awards:
“We are so honoured to be a continuing part of the AOI’s admirable mission. Their values of excellence and the peerless quality of art that they choose to exhibit match our own vision at Walker. The WIA is a remarkable award that offers so many established and up-and-coming illustrators the invaluable opportunity to have their work exhibited publicly. We look forward to seeing the huge variety of high-quality illustration presented at this year’s awards, to another inspiring year working alongside the AOI, and to the many more successful years to come.”
As part of their support for the World Illustration Awards, in July 2017 Walker Books offered the Walker Books Family Programme, a series of four illustration workshops held at Somerset House alongside the World Illustration Awards exhibition. Illustrators Alice Tait, Elissa Elwick, Sav Ayküz and Gary Northfield each ran interactive workshops with children. From creating London busses with fully-articulated spinning wheels to drawing uproariously out-of-place Roman gladiator zebras, the workshops offered a creative and fun way for children to make their very own pieces of artwork under the instruction of their favourite illustrators. Here’s Sav Ayküz’s workshop ‘I am Bear’:
