The World Illustration Awards 2023 Longlist features 500 projects by New Talent and Professional illustrators from all over the world across ten categories. This year, the awards continue to celebrate great illustration!

Sunnu Rebecca Choi – Secrets exposed
Secret Exposed is a university project and series of screen-printed illustrations that explores differences between the person and the image of a person, the tension between being and seeming. Each work is set in a particular time and space throughout the day, revealing a person’s emotional states and inner thoughts using coloured films.
Sunnu Rebecca Choi is a Korean Canadian Illustrator based in London.
Joyce Cho – You can learn to love being alone
You can learn to love being alone is an editorial illustration based on the a New York Times article on how to enjoy spending time in solitude.

Matt Holland – “Meet the archive moles.” (Prospect Magazine)
Meet the archive moles was a commission for Prospect Magazine both in print and online.
The illustration was produced for an article detailing the intriguing role of archive moles in finding lost classic novels and releasing them to wider acclaim.
Matt Holland is an illustrator based in London, Paddington.
Layla Jabbari – A journey through the UK asylum system.
Made in response to Refugee week to illustrate the journey asylum seekers takes through the UK system. Images, produced as postcards are part of a campaign to raise awareness of government policies and sold as packs with info for people to write to their MP.
Layla Jabbari is an illustrator based in Hull, UK.
These illustrations were created for a university project. This picture book is intended as a gentle introduction to death, dog adoption and ownership, with humour and colour affecting the mood of each spread.
Simona Massa was born in Naples, Italy and is currently studying for a masters degree at Cambridge School of Art (Anglia Ruskin University).
Louise Coutinho – Sunday Mornings
This playful series of illustrations are based on Louise’s favourite time of the week – Sunday. A celebration of everyday life in a colourful and playful world, used for self promotion purposes.
