INTERVIEW WITH MUTO, WORLD ILLUSTRATION AWARDS 2019 NEW TALENT RESEARCH CATEGORY WINNER
Giovanni Benedetti (aka Muto) grew up in Modena, Italy. Later on he moved to Milan where he earned his masters degree in architecture at the Polytechnic University. He currently lives between Modena and Madrid.
About the Project
This work can be described as an endless piece of research, a rewriting of the memory with no practical or academic purpose, an exercise of recovery of personal analogies, an accumulation of recurring memories.
Brief
To make a series of images to be shown on Instagram.
Materials
MS Paint and a mouse.
Process
When I start drawing I have a general idea of the image I want to present, but it is not very specific or detailed. Because of the tools and the approach I use, there is always a certain degree of uncertainty and imprecision.
Numbers
9 images, each 800 x 800 pixels.
Obstacles
I always draw the same pictures. It is hard to change habits.
Insights
Every form is extracted from the past and used. History becomes a flat surface where we can pick every reference without the fear of what there was before or what there will be after.
