Yiting Sun
New life of Kaya

Children's Publishing

Commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
When I got the story script from my commissioner Shanghai Aerogia, I was attracted by it. The work tells a story of dialogue with the inner self. Being trapped in the witch's dark castle, the protagonist Kaya is full of fear and anxiety. At this time, a black cat appears to encourage her to break through herself.

How was the illustration used:
A children's book to present the visual effect of M.C.Escher's abstract cycles.

How did you make this work:
Pencil for sketch with digital coloring. In this work there are many big scenes with a sense of spatial dislocation, so I collected a lot of information, such as pictures of castle interior and exterior of different perspects. I sorted them and then put them together in a rational but imaginative way.
