Yichen Liu
Imaginary Town

Exploration

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The intention of creation comes from my personal imagination. I like painting cities and trees. I think they are more vital than people. Because the place where I live is very small, I often imagine the world outside myself, so I use my experience of traveling through the city to create pictures, which brings me very charming enjoyment.

How was the illustration used:
This is my challenge to one of my paintings. If I am fortunate, I hope that my works can be promoted as a beautiful imagination in any city. They can be printed anywhere in magazines or pictorials. I hope people can always keep the same as me. Imagination outside of myself. Or you can use this as a starting point to create more series of illustrations for people to enjoy.

How did you make this work:
When I take a walk in a park or an old town, I take pictures as materials. I like to use cardboard, gouache, pastels, colored lead, and collage to create. The effect of collision of different materials is unexpected and fascinating. I tried to express it in an intuitive and naive state, and insisted on hand-painting, which made my imagination and experience more precious.
