Why did you make this work:
This is a fictitious childhood schoolbook with lessons and illustrations based on principles I was taught as a kid and later found problematic. The book uses humor and sarcasm to provoke thought and raise questions about conventional ideas on what constitutes "good behavior" and "good values" in a society. This is my MFA thesis work at School of Visual Arts.

How was the illustration used:
These are illustrations in a picture book in the format of a kid's schoolbook.

How did you make this work:
These images are created using a dip pen and India ink as line drawings, and then scanned and colored in Photoshop.

Biography:
Xinmei Liu was born and raised in Shanghai, China, came to the United States in the senior year of high school and spent most of her years in New York since college. In her works, she explore her cultural background, social issues and childhood experience through illustrations, prints and books.
