Science of SAD

Editorial

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
Inspired by the article in The Guardian "The Science of Sad: Understanding the causes of 'winter depression'", by David Cox, I set myself the task to make an illustration capturing the spirit of feeling caught in the darkness and cold weather of winter. This form of depression, triggered by changes in the seasons, is called 'seasonal affective disorder' or 'Sad'.

How was the illustration used:
Online Magazine

How did you make this work:
In order to portray the feeling of seasonal affective depression, I wanted to make a simple but striking image. To create a rough and unfinished touch to the image I decided to only use a graphic and coloured pencil. The illustration is supposed to go next to the article and support its message.
