I have been working with Flying Eye Books on this 'About Animals' series since 2014. With each book, I aim to convey information about these remarkable animals in an engaging and accessible way. This book is packed full of facts and artworks to inspire kids (and their carers) to learn more, care about these animals and feel inspired by the natural world.
How was the illustration used:
These pages are from a 40 page picture book exploring Crocodiles, including details on their lifestyle, how they start life, their hunting techniques and their relationship with humans.
How did you make this work:
This book is also written by me, so I began by researching everything intensively. For a while, my brain was filled with nothing but crocodiles. Once the text was finished, I used thumbnails and rough sketches to construct the compositions, then refined the drafts using both paper and pencil and an iPad. The drafts were used as a guide layer to finish the artwork using Photoshop and Illustrator.Commissioner Name :

Owen Davey is an illustrator based in Worthing, UK. Since 2009, he has worked with clients including Google, WWF, Facebook, Lego and National Geographic. He has been the lead illustrator on the multi-award winning app Two Dots for the last 7 years, and has had picture books published in over 25 languages.
