Why did you make this work:
I was given the brief by New Internationalist to illustrate their World In Your Kitchen Calendar 2021, one illustration per month to accompany a vegan/vegetarian recipe from around the world.

How did you make this work:
The illustrations are all digitally-drawn in Photoshop, with additional analogue textures. I spent a lot of time researching each of the recipes, looking at crop production, food processing and the markets for all this produce. I then combined the work/social scenes with elements from each recipe, together with cultural aspects, drawing on pattern and colour from the places and people depicted.

Biography:
Nick Taylor is an illustrator and graphic artist based in Nottinghamshire. He combines his love of drawing, collage, mark-making and printing with digital techniques. His background in printmaking constantly informs the image-making process, from the layering of images and textures, to the tactile quality and "happy accidents" inherent in many printing processes. He particularly enjoys attempting to convey the passion of his subjects through colour, shape and texture. His clients include The Guardian, New Internationalist, The Psychologist, Variety, Red Bull Radio, Times Higher Education, AQUILA, Ubiquity Records, Universal Music and Little White Lies.
