ProfessionalWhy did you make this work:
I have had a long relationship with The Folio Society, however this was the first opportunity to illustrate one of their 'limited editions’. Dante’s The Divine Comedy examines in forensic detail all of the human condition; it is exquisitely written, both shocking and transcendently beautiful. It is a visual treat for any artist and offers opportunities to stretch your imagination.
How was the illustration used: Book publishing
How did you make this work: The illustrations were worked up in line by hand in reverse and then scanned into Photoshop, flipped and augmented with ink textures to give them the feel of a woodcut. I have any colour schemes worked out before I go to Photoshop and a strict dogma about minimal changes once digitised thus preserving all the glitches and inaccuracies that give a work a level of authenticity.
