Why did you make this work:
This was one of the first illustrations I did after I finished uni, to keep the habit of creating. I chose to illustrate this article that was about how "finding yourself" does not have to involve packing your bags to start a new life in a new city. The article spoke to me personally as I grew up moving a lot and wanted to translate the feeling I had of having a clean slate after moving.

How was the illustration used:
This is a speculative editorial illustration to be used alongside a digital article I read on Medium.

How did you make this work:
I focused on making a simple concept of unexpectedly finding yourself right by your side, using visual metaphors associated with moving. This is done digitally, using Procreate on iPad.

Biography:
Natsumi Chikayasu is an illustrator from Japan. She graduated from Falmouth University in 2019 where she studied illustration. Her works often focus on sciences, feminism, places and their people, drawing inspiration from her own experience of growing up in a multicultural environment.
