Natalia Zaratiegui
Stories for Book Lovers

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I was commissioned to illustrate a book of selected stories by renowed authors such as Fitzgerald or Chéjov. The common thread of the stories is the literary world in its broader sense. I made 16 illustrations (7 double and 9 single pages), cover, endpapers and some spot illustrations. As usual, the main challenge was to faithfully convey the spirit of the stories and my own creative voice.

How was the illustration used:
As an illustrated book.

How did you make this work:
I drew the illustrations in Procreate and then I finished them in Photoshop. As the inside illustrations had to be in two ink, I used 100% black and a yellow pantone to get a strong contrast. I chose not to use grayscale to achieve strong images, favouring the yellow colour in a symbolic/poetic way.
