Mojiao Zhou

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I am a pet lover and I keep many exotic pets including jumping spiders, leopard geckos and hermit crabs. However, I began to wonder about the relationship between pets and humans: do they need us or do we need them? In four sets of illustrations, I tell the story of three pets that I have kept out of curiosity. In the process of actually keeping them I found their habits are beyond my imagination

How was the illustration used:
Comics, pop-up book

How did you make this work:
I started by digitally drawing four small comic strips about how I kept three pets that were very different from what I had imagined - and ended up climbing into the pet box myself. Then to explore the relationship between pets and humans as well as nature, I created a few more pages of a pop-up book.
