Minjung Kim
Experimental Artworks to Visualize Uncanny

Exploration

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
This work is a study made to understand anxiety from an existentialist point of view as originating from the concept of 'Uncanny' in psychoanalysis and to implement it in a visual form. It is realistic and familiar, but the more you look into it, the more it slides somewhere. I tried to loosen the consciousness of the viewers by twisting the flow of thoughts by strangely deviating from the logic.

How was the illustration used:
exhibition

How did you make this work:
In order to capture the ambiguous concept of Uncanny in the image, I approached the work in the form of play through 'accidental'. After loosening my consciousness through music, I directed my unconsciousness to be expressed as an image by an arbitrary chain and combination of images that come to mind intuitively.
