Book Covers

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I participated in Penguin books student design award (2020) which is to redesign of the original book cover, 'Goodnight Mister Tom' by Michelle Magorian published by Puffin Books. After reading the book and doing some research, I created a couple of designs and this is one of them. The book story was warmhearted and educational so I wanted to express those feelings into my design. I enjoyed it.

How was the illustration used:
This illustration is the intended use of a book cover. This is the front design of the book, In the whole design, I designed the back and spine in the middle as well.

How did you make this work:
Initially, I drew main characters and some elements of my design concept using gouache, pen and markers. After that, I did digital work to make vector images and typography for the title of the book by using Photoshop and illustrator. If I need, I used my iPad Procreator app as well.

Biography:
I'm an illustrator from South Korea and currently studying for an MA illustration at Kingston University. Before the MA course, I received my BA in Textile Design from Seoul, Korea. I love not only drawing pictures but also exploring media that have art and narratives to get inspirations. These days, I'm working on a children's picture book with my friend who wrote a story. So I'm excited to draw illustrations for my first children's book and hope I could enjoy further projects in the future as well.
