Why did you make this work:
In the fall of 2020, I received a brief to create twelve Illustrations of people and animals in connection with the furniture design from the Hamburg based company [more]. The illustrations were planned for the catalog 2021 and the furniture should be translated in a playful and imaginative way. The style brief for the illustrations was abstract, organic, rough and toned down colors.

How was the illustration used:
in the 2021 catalogue, on Instagram, on the website, an image film and selected prints

How did you make this work:
The illustrations were created in mixed techniques with the focus to create a valuable character with a dynamic and abstract expression. The analogue basic composition was created in grey tones with acrylic paints, crayons and pencils. After scanning, the illustration was coloured digitally on the iPad in the Procreate.

Marie Doerfler (*1993 in Regensburg) is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer from Hamburg, Germany. She studied BA communication design at the UAS in Augsburg, graphic design at the Falmouth University and currently MA illustration at the HAW Hamburg. Her focus is on creating emotional images for children's and young adult literature, editorial and in advertising.
