Maria Bilinska
Book illustrations for E. Hemingway "A Farewell to Arms"

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
My main purpose was to represent horror and absurdity of the war in a simple and brief way. Illustrations were created as abstractive images, that carry general mood of the book ,but don't illustrate separate events, that are described there. In this project ,I would like the illustrations to be an emotional addition, which strengthens more and more reader's impression of the book.

How was the illustration used:
in book

How did you make this work:
In this project I used different technics such as collage, photography, gouache painting, drawing… Also I used programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.

Biography:
Hi, I‘m a graphic designer and illustrator from Lviv, Ukraine. I studied in Lviv Collage of Decorative and Applied Art and in Krakow Academy of Arts. Mostly I focused on book illustrations and packaging design. But I‘m always opened for new interesting projects. In my illustrations I like mixed different techniques: vector illustrations, collage, photo or hand-drawing crafts. I use a big spectrum of self-made textures. Also I admire printmaking techniques like etching, drypoint, linocut or lithography. Often my illustrations are inspired by them. Contact me: [email protected]
