Williamsburg Shorts

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
Williamsburg, Brooklyn went through a dramatic gentrification and transformation from a working class community to one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the world. I started collecting stories from the 23 years I lived in Williamsburg, and turned it into a graphic novel because I wanted to capture the landmarks, historical events, and the characters before they all vanish.

How was the illustration used:
Graphic novel, postcards and silk screened prints

How did you make this work:
For over two years I researched, wrote, and illustrated this book which was crowd funded through Kickstarter, self published, and distributed in 2017. I hand draw everything in pencil and ink it in digitally. A recurring storyline features a girl on the L train battling the crowds to get to Manhattan, and eventually never making it because of the upcoming 15 month shutdown.
