Laon Kim
FANS Looking Over The Window

Exploration

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
At Euljiro 3-ga, Seoul, near my studio, I can find lots of equipment and tools piled up randomly in front of hardware stores. The landscape provides me with more interesting stories than any other art pieces. One day I ran into the two fans(of a double meaning) and thought they were looking over the window with curious eyes. I imagined 'What were the FANS hoping for seeing over the window?'

How was the illustration used:
This work was a personal work that began with my imagination. It was used for poster, postcard production and a portfolio piece.

How did you make this work:
My work is in the middle of analog and digital boundaries. From old brushes to vinyl, a variety of materials were printed with offset ink, gouache and watercolor to create new textures. The textures were stacked in five to ten layers with Photoshop just like building densities on a canvas.
