Insect Offcuts

How were your illustrations used? :
Experimentation, Self Promotion/portfolio

How did you make this work:
I work with paper and always throw my scraps into the compost bin - watching the bugs scurry away. One day, I realised I was throwing away my beautiful negative space! Why not try making insects (instead of feeding insects) with the offcuts? So I gathered up my scraps, put away the scissors (no re-cutting allowed) and decided to see what kind of creatures would metamorphosize. This was the result.

Kia is a fact finder & storyteller, pairing illustration with true-ish tales of everyday things. She is currently asking big questions, like ‘How did Ping Pong get its name?’ and ‘Why do dogs wear clothes?’ Kia admits it would be very nice to collaborate with publishers, to bring her clever ideas and quirky illustrated stories to a wider audience… or just any audience!
