Waypoints: A Journey on Foot

Book Covers

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Waypoints is a spellbinding travel book which looks into the psychology of pilgrimage, wilderness, and walking. The idea of this cover art was to capture the vast landscape, drawing widely on nature, culture and traditions that explores Robert Martineau's extraordinary, dreamlike journey through west Africa.

How was the illustration used:
The Illustration was used to create the narrative of a pilgrimage in search of adventure and meaning. The kaleidoscope of colours captures the vividness of the traditions and landscapes.

How did you make this work:
I used a mixture of analogue and digital techniques to create a landscape of layers that weave imprints of west Africa and the connections to the people, nature, culture and colours. There is a sense of portrayals of inner and outer worlds which I wanted to capture through a vivid composition.
