This work stems from my interest in factors affecting the great animal migration across Africa. This annual event depends on sources of water that influence animal routes. This led me to research water sources in the Zambezi catchment area. I represent here 4 of the most important reasons that have led to changes in the ecology of the river in the past decades apart from general climate change.
How was the illustration used: The illustration was set-out as a personal project. It has not been used commercially.
How did you make this work: I gathered the info from an academic study by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa named 'Ecological Changes in the Zambezi River Basin' published in Dakar, Senegal 2020. Based on this, I then worked with cut-out pieces from old magazines, paper shapes and hand-cut type, that I exposed onto a screen. Printing was instinctive, following the process more freely.

Biography:
Karin Eremia is a Romanian illustrator and printmaker based in Athens. She is a graduate (MA Illustration) from The Edinburgh College of Art. Her work is playful and at times ironic. At the same time, her strong interest in policy matters, and topics like the climate emergency, social justice, amongst others, blend in with her social observations in the form of finished or explorative pieces.
