Justyna Green
Living with Endometriosis

Commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The work was created to raise awareness of endometriosis—a chronic condition that affects 1 in 10 women, yet on average takes 8 years to diagnose. I wanted to tell my story of being diagnosed with endometriosis to raise awareness and to have a positive impact on other women experiencing symptoms. I pitched the idea to WePresent, who loved it and commissioned me to share my story on their platform.

How was the illustration used:
The piece was used as a fully illustrated article - the first one of its kind - on WeTransfer's WePresent platform - its online editorial arm. The comic presented a new and engaging way of opening up a discussion about chronic conditions and mental health struggles. The piece was well-received, with women getting in touch with Justyna, to express how much the piece resonated with them.

How did you make this work:
The work was first storyboarded on paper to create a narrative which was universal, whilst also telling a personal story. It was important the story was uplifting and provided solutions. Once the story was established, I created pencil sketches with the colours added digitally. The original pencil lines have been retained in the finished pieces. Digitally I worked in both Procreate and Photoshop.
