Mander Centre Murals

Site Specific

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
For this project, we were approached by our tutor, who selected us to create two large-scale murals for the Wolverhampton Mander Centre. This creative challenge gave us the opportunity to work as a collaborative group for the first time, which improved our creative skills and developed our making processes, as we learnt from one another and had the amazing experience of working on a live brief.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations we created were used on two large scale murals, situated in the Mander Centre, Wolverhampton. The ‘Abstract’ wall was 288 cm x 2000 cm, and the ‘Botanical’ wall was 290 cm x 1550 cm.

How did you make this work:
To start we were inspired by several artists/ images and began experimentation physically, through mark-making, creating collages, and 3D models - this really helped with creating texture and depth. We were then able to create rough sketches of compositions and began to work digitally alongside one another to create the outcomes, allowing us to add colour, shape, and form.
