  • Why did you create this work?
    I needed to translate the message and mission of a community centre called "Villa Vonk". The snake represents the power of transformation. It reminds us that love, healing, regeneration and wisdom are constant and essential aspects of our existence. The snake embraces the woman, who represents nature. The woman is seen as the source and guiding force of creation, creativity and the life cycle.
  • How were your illustrations used?
    The illustration was applied during the rooftop days of Rotterdam, a festival were people get acces to rooftops that will normally be inaccessible. This mural took place on the rooftop of a Mall in Rotterdam Zuid.

    Acylics and spray paint.

    Joël de Ruiter is a Dutch illustrator based in Schiedam. His style is subversive, with eye-catching colour combinations he is bound to let the viewer contemplate. Through his work he channels his emotions and questions current social matters with the use of philosophy, that will successfully translate in his own narrative.
