Joanne Liu
My City

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
This is a sequel to the book, My Museum. Max is asked to mail a letter for his mother. As he walks around the city searching for a mailbox, he discovers all sorts of interesting things. All around him adults hurry on their various errands, too busy to appreciate these wondrous details. This is a book about discovering the small joys and colorful details of everyday city life.

How was the illustration used:
Children's book

How did you make this work:
I made marks by stamping with the edge of cardboard boxes, rulers, erasers and tips of chopsticks. I wanted to create all the wonderful textures seen around a busy and vibrant city. I also wanted to contrast the bright colors that Max noticed with all the drab greys of the city.
