Why did you make this work:
This project was created as part of my masters stage project. I wanted to create a picture book to explore how double page spreads can be used and how this format can develop as sense of atmosphere in my illustrations.

How was the illustration used:
A physical picture book for young children.

How did you make this work:
I created these illustrations using mixed media, collage, guache paint and colour pencil. For each image I started with a block colour background and worked in layers to build up the image.

Biography:
Jess is a Yorkshire based illustrator who is a recent graduate of the Cambridge School of Art where she studied on the Masters course in Illustration for Children's Books. Jess enjoys using a variety of processes from printing techniques to mixed media and layering the mediums to create textures and marks. She likes to create little worlds in her illustrations that the viewer can get lost in.
