This book was commissioned by Leiturinha, a Brazilian publisher. They recently started a new imprint and were looking for new talent to work on it. I shared numerous ideas with them and they were interested in a manuscript I wrote about the passing of a day by a child's perspective. With the art, I wanted to limit the color pallet but also show the different hues of the sky from sunrise to sunset.
How was the illustration used: The illustrations are a part of a picture book written and illustrated by me.
How did you make this work: For all the illustrations I used a mix of traditional and digital media. Watercolor washes, pen & ink, and everything was assembled on Adobe Photoshop.

Irena Freitas is an illustrator currently based in Manaus, Brazil, working for clients internationally. She has an MFA in Illustration by Savannah College of Arts and Design and loves illustrating people and funny situations that happen in our daily life. When she is not working on her illustrations she likes to read and travel to new places.
