Them/They - Why did you create this work?
The global fitness app asked us to create a batch of 20 badge illustrations that would take the Strava visual experience to a next level. Our goal was an iconic, cheerful look. We chose a character-based approach, featuring inclusive, gender-neutral, and dynamic characters, adding flair to Strava's user journey in diverse sports, levels, and tiers. - How were your illustrations used?
The characters were used inside the badges within the UI in a static way. For this reason, we played with exaggerated proportions, super perspectives and emphasized tilts to add movement to the static images. Furthermore, we used some floating elements, like their heads or supersized hands to accentuate their dynamism and free flow even more. - What materials and techniques did you use?
We used mainly Adobe Illustrator, mixing it with a bit of Figma, and for the animation part, we used only Adobe After Effects. - Was this project commissioned?
Commissioned - Commissioner Company
