Felicia Fortes
How to talk with your kids about racism

Editorial

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
While the Black Life Matters protests against police brutality toured the world, I got commissioned to make an illustration for an article about how to talk with your kids about racism. Some kids might see the news and get worried. Some kids aren't used to meet people from different backgrounds, which can create problems in the future.

How was the illustration used:
For a feature article in the newspaper.

How did you make this work:
I wanted to create a calm and warm illustration in contrast to the police brutality and the sometimes black and white discussion. Reactions on racism can be so different – as we are different. These parents do their best, but it's the kids that will meet up eventually and make all the difference. The illustration is made with Adobe Photoshop.
