Schwellenangst – Liegende Achten, der Tod und das Jetzt

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The project "Schwellenangst" - is a 486 pages book that deals with the topics of dying, death and mourning in terms of content, but also wants to retell them visually. The book tries to approach the taboo of death and should invite to deal with the finiteness of life. Its a collection of death related topics, anecdotes and different perspectives. We collaborated and created 90 Illustrations.

How was the illustration used:
The illustrations are part of our publication and invite the viewer to engage with the theme of death.

How did you make this work:
We developed a new way of illustrating together, layer by layer. We created abstract paintings, scanned them and used these scans digitally as textures. Then we created multi-layered illustrations together. One of us begins, the other continues to work with what has been found. This process need trust and be read as an allegory for dealing with finiteness. It is very much about letting go.
