  • Why did you create this work?
This illustration was the result of a multi-team effort between the investigative, visual, design and data teams to depict how difficult it is to fire a correction’s officers working for the corrections agency in New York who has been accused of committing a disciplinary infraction.
  • How were your illustrations used?
Dion MBD rendered our data as small vignettes, each one reported to actually represent a dozen accusations in our data. All 5,461 infractions are represented in the resulting landscape shown in the article—a wild, Bruegelian tapestry of correction officers misbehaving, being negligent with their work, and worst of all, abusing prisoners.
