Dari Cheslavskaya
While Waiting

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I tried to capture this unique feeling of the road, to talk about waiting. I wanted to keep the features on the train, the first associations and memories. The feeling of smooth tapping of time that accompanies you on the way, peace, loneliness and quietness. I wanted to put it all together in order to save. To understand and name. The result is more like a book-feeling or a book-reflection.

How was the illustration used:
The zine is to be looked, to be recollected and enjoyed!

How did you make this work:
The work was first storyboarded on paper to create a narrative without text. It was important that the work conveyed a feeling, but at the same time had a story in itself. I chose charcoal as the material, it has a lightness and texture that helps convey the silence we encounter on the road while still leaving room for the reader's imagination.
