Da.Kim
Mr Anxiety and his Thorny Nightmare

Exploration

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The initial inspiration for this personal project, came from my own experiences with social anxiety. My awareness towards the damaging effects of social anxiety has made me create a series of illustrations that visually represent the issue. The protagonist, Mr Anxiety, represents the widespread anxious reaction towards daily human activities and social obligations, within contemporary society.

How was the illustration used:
This series of illustrations was created as a personal project. This work is a part of my portfolio.

How did you make this work:
I utilised acrylic paint on canvas paper to best depict a dream-like atmosphere, which is highlighted by the muted colour palette. Smooth and vivid strokes, delineate the scenes and maintain the viewer focused on the narrative. I decided to adopt a figurative style of illustration, to serve as a descriptive medium to communicate my thoughts and feelings, on the subject of being human.
