Johnnie Walker Blue Year of the Pig

Design Product & Packaging

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
Illustrated the Year of the Pig packaging label for Johnnie Walker Blue Label. As the pinnacle of the Johnnie Walker trademark, Blue Label is the ultimate, luxury gift to give. The design focuses on themes of abundance, luxury, generosity and wealth. These Pig qualities have parallels with the Johnnie Walker brand traits.

How was the illustration used:
The Chinese New Year Pig edition bottle is the global CNY design. The bottle is used as a canvas to tell the story. The design decorates three sides of the Johnnie Walker Blue bottle and also on the box packaging. The Pig design was used throughout their whole CNY advertisement campaign.

How did you make this work:
Sketches were created on paper, outlined with pen and coloured in Photoshop. Key visual elements and Chinese traditions (yung bao, red packets, lanterns, lucky knot decoration, fireworks, pussy willow, kumquats) create a familiar celebratory CNY scene. Blue, and gold are colours associated with Johnnie Walker, red symbolises ‘good luck’ in Chinese culture. Gold symbolises money and wealth.
