The Time Machine

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
Sometimes a moment is so beautiful that you wish that you could keep it that way forever. Whilst researching the theme of treasuring memories I found out a lot of people, like me, forget about the precious moments of which they don't have any keepsakes. I wanted to create something that makes people hold onto these lovely memories so they will never forget them.

How was the illustration used:
The Time Machine was seen at different festivals throughout Holland.

How did you make this work:
I created a portable festival installation where people can write down a memory of which they don't have a keepsake and put it in the Time Machine. After they tell the machine their memory it starts to 'create' and within 5 minutes a hand comes out and gives the user a little illustration of their written memory. In secret it is me sitting behind the machine, painting the users story.

Biography:
I’m an illustrator from the Netherlands who is always looking for the poetry in the world around her. I get inspiration from folklore, my own childhood memories and unexpected moments from my personal life. I love sipping coffee whilst doing some observational drawing in historic places and my work can be described as sweet and playful, with attention for detail.
