On the Shores of Baikal.

Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
In the summer of 2019 we travelled around Lake Baikal. It is a very unique lake and we learned about its difficulties and dangers that threaten it. We believe that drawing attention to the topic of conservation is very relevant in our time. So we decided to make a book for children about Baikal. We are currently working on the book together with Samokat Publishers (Moscow).

How was the illustration used:
Preparatory material and illustrations for a book about Lake Baikal, which is scheduled to be published in 2021 by Samokat Publishers (Moscow).

How did you make this work:
We are twin sisters and work on illustrations together. Our technique is hand painting in watercolor, gouache, charcoal, acrylics, and pencils with computer processing. We like to experiment with materials while trying to convey the beauty of nature realistically through our impressions and imagination.

Biography:
Our names are Anya and Varya Kendel and we are twin sisters who work together on illustrations for books! One of us is left-handed - the other is right-handed and when we were kids we drew the same picture at the same time. It’s a bit different now but the two of us take turns working on each illustration. The most favorite theme for our works is nature.
