Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
I made this work as part of a group project on the MA in Children's Book Illustration. My 'Whale and the Wanderer' image was chosen by my peers as the cover art for the 'Amazing Animaliterations' book which was given as a reward for funding our Kickstarter to raise money for our graduation shows.

How was the illustration used:
Cover design and inside image for a group project book, 'Amazing Animaliterations'.

How did you make this work:
I made this work by painting textured colours onto individual sheets of paper which I then collaged together before scanning the image onto my computer and adding details digitally.

Biography:
Alice has recently completed an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. She likes to create playful images with a blend of people, animals and backgrounds inspired by real life. Alice is excited by character, texture and most of all, telling stories through her artwork. During the course, she has developed a process of using both printmaking and digital techniques to create work. She also likes experimenting with unusual formats, such as concertinas and folding books (some of which have been recognised for prizes such as the Batsford Prize 2019 and featured in exhibitions such as the AOI’s ‘Inspired to Innovate’ in London).
