Alex Green
My Christmas

Editorial

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I was commissioned to illustrate the childhood Christmas of financial educator Alvin Hall, in his column for Waitrose Weekend magazine. The piece was very personal and spoke about the closeness of his siblings and the cakes that each of them asked for on Christmas Day. I chose a low angled perspective, given this was such a child-centred article.

How was the illustration used:
For Waitrose Weekend Magazine's ‘My Week’ column.

How did you make this work:
I always sketch on paper when coming up with ideas and then scan the drawing into Photoshop where I render the final piece. Bit by bit, I whittle away the sketch, occasionally leaving some elements in the final version. In this drawing, I wanted to evoke colours and design elements of late 1950's and early 60’s America, choosing a limited palette that was reminiscent of that time.
