Why did you choose to enter this work?
Reading makes up a large portion of my free time and lots of my work are inspired by the stories I read. As an appreciation for my favorite books, I decided to create book jackets for them.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
My favorite thing is how the illustrations came out so naturally because of how familiar and emotionally connected I am with these stories. I felt so immersed, and it is such a fulfilling experience
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am a recent graduate. This award is a confidence booster for the skills I learned in the past four years and encourages me to keep exploring, experimenting, and incorporating what I love in my work
Where do you usually work?
I have a studio space in my house where I can work alone for illustration and design. But when it comes to craft making I come down to the living room where I have a lot more room to make a mess
How long did it take to complete your project?
I worked in between other projects because I was in school and working in house. So I think about 4 to 5 weeks
What is your dream commission?
My dream commission would be editorial and commercial projects with topics that I feel emotionally connected with, such as social phenomena, cultures, history, food...etc!
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Currently I love to create surreal artworks inspired by nature
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Don't stop creating and find things you are passionate about. When in doubt, experiment more
What are your plans for the future?
Continue to do what I love, finding an agent, and travel to experience different cultures and lives
