Preferred Pronoun?
She/Her
Why did you choose to enter this work?
I hoped that other people would identify with the theme of the narrative. I know that lots of people struggle to sleep, and I hope that I captured some of the feelings that come with this.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
It's really nice to have worked on a project that has both satisfied me creatively, and that has a narrative that other people can hopefully relate to.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
Not only is being shortlisted for the WIA a fantastic opportunity to bring greater visibility to my work, it’s also really encouraging to receive affirmation that the judges liked my zine.
Where do you usually work?
If I’m creating, I normally work in a little box room at home that functions as my studio. I’ll go to a café if I’m doing admin or focussing on the business side of my illustration practice.
How long did it take to complete your project?
Making the zine was quite a long process as it involved drawing lots of detailed scenes in pencil. Including the planning stage, it probably took me three to four months to complete. I enjoyed it!
What is your dream commission?
At the moment, my dream commission would be illustrating a cookbook as I really enjoy drawing food. In the long-term I’d also like to get into illustrating children’s books and maybe a graphic novel!
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing buildings, food, nature, as well as scenes from everyday life. I’ve also started to enjoy drawing characters (something that I wasn’t confident doing before).
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
I have to remind myself that I can't always make great work on the first try. Finding an outcome I'm happy with can take several attempts. Don't feel bad about this, it's part of the process!
What are your plans for the future?
I will keep adding to my portfolio and aim to find good clients and projects to work on! I’d also love to work in a shared studio at some point so that I can meet other creatives in Edinburgh!
