Preferred Pronoun?
He/him
Why did you choose to enter this work?
Because it is a work that I have taken care of in great detail from the beginning, from design to final implementation. It was a team project involving various professionals.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
It's a structured project. The illustrations I made to tell the story of the Apulian tradition have different applications: on the bottle, on the box and on the poster inside the packaging.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am happy to be among great illustration professionals and to make my work known through an important award like this.
Where do you usually work?
I work in my home office. As tools I use notebooks, pencils, a laptop, a monitor and an ipad. I always start with a pen or pencil sketch and then process the illustration digitally.
How long did it take to complete your project?
The project took three months to finalise. It was a complex project with a lot of attention to detail, especially when printing on very different media: glass, paper, cardboard.
What is your dream commission?
I dream of doing the artwork for a cover of the legendary Blue Note record label.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I like to draw crazy jazz musicians, big saxophones, drums, trumpets and pianos.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
You always design even when there is no commission. You always design to communicate a message, an idea or an emotion.
What are your plans for the future?
Networking with other professionals and specialising in editorial and packaging illustration.
