The international prize for emerging and established illustrators returns for its second run.

Open for entries from 1 March 2021 (closing 11 April 2021).

The Northern Illustration Prize is one part of The Northern Festival of Illustration, a biennial celebration of all that is great about the diverse world of illustration.

In 2019 The Prize attracted hundreds of entries from 6 continents.

2021 starts with the world still in the grip of a pandemic but also with clear hope for the future as the creative minds of science roll out vaccines across the globe.

So this year The Prize wants to celebrate new beginnings – its theme is Renaissance. Illustrators can interpret this in any way they want to, but we would like to see entries which reflect hope, and positivity.

The Prize invites entries from:

  • Emerging illustrators in the first two years of their career
  • Established illustrators more than five years into their career

A £1000 prize awaits the winner of each category.

Shortlisted entries and the winners will be exhibited as part of The Northern Festival of Illustration which we hope will take place across June and July 2021.

The Northern Illustration Prize is the creation of The Northern School of Art and is a collaboration with The Association of Illustrators.

The Northern Festival of Illustration was founded in 2015 by The Northern School of Art as a major showcase for the talent of illustrators across print, digital, product design and many other fields – aiming to open eyes to the rewarding and diverse careers open to young people. It is supported by Arts Council England with National Lottery funds.
