James O’Brien is an Illustrator, Animator and Writer, living in London.
James started printing with potatoes in 2015*, and was curious about the consequences an artist might suffer if they presented a potato printed portrait to a dictator. This led to a potato printed calendar, Dictatoes, where Idi Amin celebrates his birthday every month with another dictator of his era (as per the legend).
From that moment, the potato printing got out of hand very quickly. James soon started to branch out into animals, film posters and just very silly illustrations of things with captions to lighten or darken the mood.
*I started potato printing in 1984, but a family imposed painting embargo ran from 1989-1992, following a spillage of red acrylic paint on Uncle Don’s Persian rug, stunting personal development from 1989-2015.
